  • At work, my co-worker (a black lady) and I (a white guy) are both very anxious about Tuesday. We'll both have the same reaction Wednesday morning if he wins (ecstatic) or if he loses (very discouraged). If you mean lower income blacks will go all 'hootchie mama' on people wednesday, I can only say, we should be so lucky to have the lower classes care that much about politics!

  • Obama, I feel his goodness outshines the color of his skin. Blacks have it just as good as whites, no payback.

  • I would be more worried about the violent backlash that will result from the GOP stealing the election as they did in 2000 and 2004:

  • This is not about violence. You've been scared for so long you don't know anything else. This is about peace and unity. This is about brotherhood and the acknowledgment that all men are created equal. Can you understand when one among us said, “I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character…” Martin Luther King Jr.

  • This seems like something of a “stealth” paranoia meme….
So let's talk about pride in our candidate and how silly this “pay back” idea can get:
    1) Obama's Mom spent some time in the Seattle area. I'm in the Seattle area. Thus I'm unduly proud of Seattle's contribution to Obama's life. (Better watch out Columbus, Ohio!)
    2) I'm white. Obama's Mom was white. (Better watch out all you non-whites…)
    3) I'm a Democrat. Obama's a Dem. (Better watch out Republicans!)
See how silly this game can be when taken to extremes?
On Tuesday I'll PROUDLY vote for the one person that might be able to lead our country out of this mess; Mr Obama.
He happens to be the son of a white woman and a black man. More importantly he happens to love and believe in a just America.
And I pray to God I'll be able to whoop it up election night and start using the phrase President-elect Obama! OTOH: I wouldn't mind Joe Lieberman getting some serious payback for being such a d*ck after Obama saved his (non-kosher) bacon during the last election.

  • As an African American Woman, I hope that other African Americans do not perch themselves on a high horse of retaliation against whites, should Obama win the election. I can see how this will happen in some circles. I was just talking about this with my husband, who is French-Canadian (white). My son is a biracial as Obama (well, in reverse), and I would just be proud of Obama…Not of his race. For those African Americans that might go around whoopin' and hollering and feeling superior if Obama wins…they are just as low brow as the skinheads who want to kill Obama. http://www.shesoghetto.wordpress.com/

  • “Does everyone forget that Obama's mother is white & his father is black…so he's not really what is truly known as african american.” Bullshit. If there was any truth to that we wouldn't have the word “octoroon”. No, it's not a cookie.  The fact is that American racism is inseparable from the big bad specter of miscegenation, and Obama, with his white mother and black father, personifies it. It's not the purity of the blood, but the perception of the purity. My wife's lily-white grandmother used to get so dark during our Georgia summers that she had to use the “Colored” waiting rooms at the doctor or dentist, even though everyone there knew she was white. At the time of Obama's birth, someone who was half white would have had a hard time voting.  He may have white family members, but he can still be “what is truly known as african american” since society saw in the past (and still sees in the present) anyone like him a being black.

  • But payback for what? If there's no racism in America, what reason could African Americans have to exact revenge. I mean that's what I've been told all my life that racism in America is a crutch and doesn't exist. So again, if there is no racism and everyone is equal …what's the payback angle, Granny?

  • The only people who will be causing any chaos if Obama wins is the Palin/McCain rabble that support him. They have already shown that they are out of control. Organizing killing sprees and plots against Obama's life, mutilating their own face, acting like animals at GOP rallies.  These people are the ones that are the real American threat.

  • Whichever candidate wins, there will be a huge party and huge protests. It's not just going to be from the Obama supporters toward the McCainiacs. If Obama wins there will be tons of anger and racist feelings that will fuel protests and/or riots by McCain supporters in many of what John McCain calls the “Pro-America” parts of America. Don't make it sound like only one group is going to go nuts. It's going to be a cluster…well, you know.
