Go figure that Slate's knee-jerk contrarianism would evolve into preemptive contrarianism. Joel's crappy music since the mid-80's is so so bad that it obscures the fact that he actually made a few good records. Klosterman's essay is awesome. Plus Billy Joel cut his musical teeth in a cheezy prog-metal band. That alone should be enough to earn some Hall & Oates-level hipster love. Next time you're at a party and some douche DJ plays “Maneater”, ask him to play “Sometimes A Fantasy”. Plus, if you can't feel nostalgic listening to “My Life” and remembering the opening credits to “Bosom Buddies”, then you don't have a heart.
