  • Bans On Gay Marriage Pass

Politics Buzz While Americans welcomed their first black president with open arms, it seems they’re still not down with the gays getting, y’know, equal rights and stuff. You’d have thought that the country’s favorite talk show host could have at least warmed California over, for goodness’ sake.

  • all of you should be ashamed, you have no moral fortitude! What if the ManBoy guys want to pass a law that says they can have sex with all the little boys they want, oh no don't discriminate against them, or maybe even little girls. Whats to stop them if we don't have some kind of boundies against people with no morality. We need to get bake to the Christian based thinking that the country was founded on. Anyone who thinks liberty has no moral foundation can go live in France or somewhere other than here.

  • I am simply delighted that I live in the UK where religion is told in no uncertain terms to *butt out* of all things political. Marriage is legal for all - no matter what sex one is - and that is how it should be. I wish all those gay girls and boys in the USA all the luck they deserve. I just hope that sooner rather than later the powers that be over there wake up and give rights to all.

  • Ha!
Its OK that we force people with religious convictions to change sacred beliefs as long as we are “fair” to homosexuals. Just require that federal benefits and protections are extended to Civil Unions and Domestic Parterships instead of hijacking someones religious definitions. Wow how hard is that… unless the reason you want Same-Sex “Marriage” is NOT because you just want to be joined to your partner for life, but instead you want to degrade religion.

Thousands are protesting the passage of CA Prop 8 which bans same sex marriage. L.A.Times reports:
“The Los Angeles Police Department issued a citywide tactical alert, requiring all available officers to respond to the protest, LAPD spokesman Officer Jason Lee said.” http://www.commentculture.com/forums/Propositions-California-t438.html

  • I was wondering if those people who I saw on TV being interviewed for supporting Prop 8 really realize that nothing was being taken away from their 'marriage of a man and a woman' status but that they won't allow same-sex couple to marry and be partners for a lifetime and also be able to have the same legal entitlements as all married couples. Clearly it is a wrong religious message to cause hate, bigotry and separatism of certain groups, even though they pay the same taxes from where those entitlements come from. Truly the Mormon and Catholics who put in the most $$$ contributions in support of Prop8 will and should be judged by the Holy Bible for lack of TOLERANCE and Compassion. socalrws 11.5.08

  • Last night I fell asleep proud to be an American. I woke up today, to find that I am ashamed to be a Californian.  I find it hard to believe that in this State of liberal freedom - we could have changed our Constitution to ban the union of 2 people. Why is this even an issue? I don't have time to care about who is in your bedroom! Man, woman, blue friggin' elephant (okay Prop 2 says not that last one) - whatever, it is your business and I would love if you could mind your own life so I can mind mine.  To all of the busy bodies who have gobs of extra time on their hands, I need staff. Stop by and I will point out the vacuum, dust rags, give over all my dry cleaning receipts and the keys to my car - she needs a detail. Thanks!

  • i still hate that marriage is a word used by government. i think the solution for this is for the government not to “marry” anyone. the government should grant civil unions to one man and one woman, and one man and a man, and one woman and a woman. let the churches deal with their religious marriage and bigotry, and leave the government out of it

  • While I am elated with the Election of Obama, my joy is tinged by the fact that those of us in the LGBT community are not yet considered, to use the words of Whoopi Goldberg, 'a part of the American fabric'.  California, Arizona & Florida voters all voted to enshrine inequality into their respective state Constitutions and, in doing so, are jeopardizing my basic civil rights, including Hospital visitations, domestic partner benefits and other legal protections.  Hell, I'm not asking for a gay or a lesbian to be elected President in order for me to feel like I'm a 'part of the fabric' of this country, I just want to have the same protections and recognitions as my straight counterparts. I trust Obama will be the LGBT ally he promised he would be during this campaign.  David L. Wylie
