Diners at Dans le Noir? have to choose from surprise menus for their meal and they are served by blind waiters and sommeliers. According to the restaurant's website, its concept is meant to encourage diners to re-evaluate their perceptions of taste, smell and texture. There are locations in Paris, Barcelona, London, St. Petersburg, and New York. This is not the only chain that specializes in this kind of blind dining experience.

Fortezza Medicea Restaurant; Volterra, Italy

In Italy, one of the toughest restaurants to get into is this oddly situated one, set inside a prison and staffed almost entirely by inmates (don't worry, the cutlery is plastic). One reason for the waits of up to two months is that it's hugely popular; the other is that every diner needs to be screened by Rome's Ministry of Justice.

The coffin restaurant, called Eternity, is the work of a funeral parlour in the town of Truskavets, in the west of the country near the Polish border.

The undertakers hope that their restaurant will be confirmed as the world’s biggest coffin, attracting tourists to a region best known for its mineral-rich bathing waters.
