While I believe all animals should be treated with respect and care, it is unfortunately true that animals will almost always be necessary as a part of trials before medical device and drug approval. Animals play a large role in medical research and there are committees (IACUC) and guidelines in place to ensure ethical treatment in these labs. It sucks, but unfortunately to ensure enough safety before going to human clinical trials, animal trials are necessary. And if you’re sitting here still eating meat, it’s ridiculous to choose to complain about animal testing. I would be willing to bet most animals in a lab setting are treated way more humanely than animals en route to the slaughterhouse.

I agree with what you’re saying but you’re leaving out the biggest area of animal testing - animal trials of drugs and medical devices. Many cats, dogs, monkeys, mice, etc. are used in the medical field as part of the process for a drug/device to gain FDA approval.

I guess I’m entitled because I worked hard in high school to get a full ride to college and then busted my ass in college to get a degree in bioengineering, and after all that, yes I expect a job in my field. Shocking, huh?

You obviously didn’t read the full article. It also covers gestational diabetes screening, HIV tests, cervical cancer tests, STD tests, and breastfeeding supplies. There are also non-hormonal methods of birth control as well (Copper IUD, diaphragm, etc). Next time read the article, don’t just look at the picture. This is a win.
