glad this was scraped. seems like something dreamworks would do…

Ok so here's the story…
A 12 year old girl in science class was just told by her teacher that next week the class has to dissect a lizard (Newt). During the week she feels sorry for the poor animal and releases him into a convenient near by pond. Newt ( The Lizard) was scared at first because he didn't know where he was, he meant other friendly animals that said things like “Your in the wild newt! Don't you know what this place is?” and he like “No, I was taken away from my parents when i was a young lizard, that's why I never even seen the wildness”. So he joins some kind of colony of lizards but the lizards are about to get killed by some bigger/better colony of “Things”. Newt dies but then he comes back alive and saves the day.

Fucking Cars 2. Are you kidding?

I'm so stoked for any new Pixar stuff. Sad that this was scrapped tho.

I heard it was scrapped… Are you ready for this… Because the theme was two blue-footed newts had to reproduce to repopulate their species. However this theme closely resembled that of another animated movie coming out, Alfa and Omega. Which is going to be horrible. Pixar stopped production of newt because alfa and omega stole it's originality, basically.

I love the third picture! I want to hug him. Sad this movie got scrapped. On the fence about Cars 2. Excited for Monster Inc 2. Intrigued by Bear and the Bow ooor as it is now called Brave.

Ixnay on Cars 2, the one PIxar franchise that wasn't great.

(In response to my other post) Yikes, that got mangled somehow. It was supposed to read, “Of course, they hate each other initially, but then set off on a journey of self-discovery and fall in love.” I hate my computer.

The plot of the movie was that these two newts were the last two of their species on the earth, and they were brought together in a science lab to procreate and save their species. But the guy's a pampered, spoiled rotten prince-type and the girl's a street smart, had-a-tough-life character. Of course, they hate eaourney of self-discovery and fall in love.  …Dammit, thinking about it made me sad it'll never see the light of day. :(  Also, DEATH TO CARS 2. VIVA MONSTERS INC. 2!

I was scrapped because they decided that the part where Newt and Hicks die in their pods was too big of a bummer for kids.

By forcing Pixar to continually revisit their strongest properties in lieu of original concepts, Disney is killing the very thing that made the studio so refreshing and interesting in the first place. Oh well. They had a pretty good run.

Seems visually a tad too similar to A Bugs Life, just a different more pronounced climate, and of course the creatures are larger. And judging by that last sketch one of the newts is maybe captured and put in a terrarium? That would be just like Finding Nemo. Pixar's not the kind of studio to repeat itself. Of every successful movie they've had only one so far has had any sequels (I think the Cars sequel on the way though). Also I really love the design of that big smiling newt in the third picture.

Alright here is the word on the street about why its cancelled. Pixar had two new franchises lined up: Newt and The Bear and the Bow. Disney only wanted to support one new IP before they continued expanding past franchises. So, Newt was canceled and the production of Cars 2 (which was already greenlit) and Monsters Inc. 2 (which was greenlit as a result of Newt's cancellation) were able to receive the full attention of the studio along with The Bear and the Bow. Personally, I would give anything for Monsters Inc 2 but could not care less about Cars 2, so it's a push in my book. Mike Wazowski.
