Kenneth a year agoThe current trend by health campaigns to turn smokers into lepers by stoking up prejudice is almost akin to a nazi hunt—which was originally stared by the Nazi’s. For a nation that was founded on the principle of no tax without representation, taxing items far higher than their principle value and aimed at a minority portion of the population (mainly poor) is fundamentally wrong. What these short-minded individuals cannot see is the potential for an underground network profiteering on non-taxable sales. The resultant cost of policing this so called criminal activity and incarcerating violators will at some point exceed the revenue generated. There may be other means of circumventing state tax payments. This rate of tax is almost as bad as prohibition. Also, taxing a minority group seems to me to be very un-American. Even if taxes were effective in reducing smoking, the result is a lower tax revenue.

annihilist a year agoMeanwhile, smoking among teens is way up nowadays. That’s because teens live in the now. These anti-smoking people can’t deal with that, because smoking-related issues are a long term issue and kids don’t think long term. They’re not concerning themselves with what’s going to happen when they’re 40 or 50. They’re all about instant gratification.
