When you put it this way, I guess Weiner’s not too bad.  /sarcasm Just because Republicans stand for this “family values” ideal does not mean that Democrats should be given a free pass when involved in such scandals.  A Democrat who cheats on his wife (or pays for hookers/escorts, or has a gay affair) should be just as heavily reprimanded as a Republican. Such actions should be seen as wrong no matter who engages in them.  Those defending Weiner should try to look at this from a more neutral perspective.

I’m a democrat and I think Weiner needs to go. I don’t want him representing my ideals. he’s embarassing. Vitter and Weiner are both equally creepy.

Defend Weiner on his merits. There is no reason to have to tear someone else down because your guy F’d up.  Overall I believe Republicans take their role more seriously and more often resign or leave office at end of term when involved in such a scandal. Dems tend to blame someone else and stay in office. Look at Clinton, if he had resigned and Gore finshed out the term as Pres depending on Gore’s performance which I think would have been good enough he would have won the 2000 election. Instead Clinton hung on and lost the 2000 election for Gore.  I’m a repub and I don’t get why Vitter is still in office either.

The other difference is that the republicans welcomed Vitter back with a standing ovation, while Pelosi has already launched an ethics investigation.
