Astronaut Chris Hadfield Sings With The Barenaked Ladies While In Space

Both the arts and space exploration could use more funding to keep making awesome collaborations. Just sayin’.

Col. Chris Hadfield has done more to raise the profile of astronauts in a few short months than anyone else in years. Between recording the first original song in space to having a conversation with Captain Kirk to showing off day-to-day life aboard the Internnational Space Station, Hadfield is doing his part to reignite a love of space travel.

His most recent contribution is a song he co-wrote with Ed Robertson, “I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing). It’s being described as the first space-to-earth musical collaboration and was recorded with help from the children’s choir, the Wexford Gleeks.

Between 2009 and 2011 U2 had some astronauts pre-record verses during their 360 Tour but live music co-written by the commander of the ISS is a totally different animal. Sorry Bono.
