iamerickson a year agoMost people don’t realize that the technology used aboard the space shuttle is by and large the same that was used back in the ’80s. According to a friend of mine who is a former NASA employee, the theory here is that the existing technology is tested and works, and upgrades introduce the potential for bugs, which we can’t afford to introduce with billions of dollars and human lives on the line. Personally, I think this is just one more reason why we should be building a new successor to the shuttle program based on modern technology, rather abandoning manned exploration of the last true frontier entirely. If we could do as much as we have with so little, what could we do with updated tech?
