No. With straight people, the ‘Rules’ are taught and reinforced from birth. Even when you’re breaking them; being a tom-boy or a boy who doesn’t like sports, you are consciously aware you’re breaking them. Being gay has its own set of rules that you have to seek out yourself or learn by mistakes. Worse, the rules change rapidly and differ by location, age or clique. There’s no Disney movie for us at 4. Before recently and still technically not mainstream, there is no teen movie for us. Everything is through the eyes of straight people. And that mild doesn’t always comfortably apply to queer situations.
