16 Crazy Challenges People Are Doing In 2016

Want to push yourself out of your comfort zone in 2016? Here is some serious challenge inspo...

As the end of another year approaches, it is time to reflect on the past twelve months and think ahead to 2016. Setting yourself a goal for the New Year is a great way to make sure it kicks off with a bang. Replace those January blues with a dose of renewed motivation and energy.

In need of inspiration? Check out this impressive list of challenges that people have planned for 2016 as part of the DofE Diamond Challenge – a celebration of 60 years of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

    1. Dressing up as James Bond and jumping out of a plane - with a parachute on we’d like to add.

    2. Learning stand-up comedy and performing in front of an audience. (Can you teach yourself to be funny?)

    3. The 'Three Peaks Challenge' – climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales within 25 hours.

    4. Learning sign language. Did you know different countries have different sign language?

    5. Swimming 60,000m in 1 month. That’s almost twice across the Channel…

    6. Learning to swim (we hope this isn’t the same person who is doing number 5).

    7. Taking part in an extreme obstacle course - think electric shocks and underwater tunnels.

    8. Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania – the tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

    9. Learning Norwegian. Lykke til!

    10. Cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End – a journey of approximately 1,000 miles across the length of the UK.

    11. Overcoming a pigeon phobia by holding a pigeon – niche, but we respect that.

    12. Knitting a 60m long scarf - the plan is then to chop it up into 60 normal sized scarves.

    13. Learning how to fish. Fancy upping the challenge? The biggest fish ever caught in the UK weighed a whopping 94kg – that’s more than a gorilla!

    14. Planning and playing a 60-minute DJ set in front of friends. No pressure…

    15. Walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall. Did you know that this 73-mile long wall was built by the Romans in the 2nd Century AD? That’s very, very old.

    16. An eating contest. We’re not sure exactly what this involves, but we like the sound of it.
