Disaster Vacation - 5 Classic Movie Vacations Gone Wrong

After disaster vacations like these, let's hope you make it out of your next family vacation alive (and with all your teeth)

Hangovers, dead bodies, and Sin City - oh my! These classic movies are brimming with the worst-case vacation scenarios gone wrong. They all started out promising, but ended up in some very sticky situations. And you thought your family vacations were bad?

    Couples Retreat

This hilarious comedy centers around four couples (starring Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Kristen Davis, Faizon Love, Kristen Bell, Kali Hawk, and Malin Akerman) who visit a tropical resort (Eden) for what they anticipate will be a relaxing and refreshing respite from their everyday lives. While only one of the couples is actually there to improve their marriage, the other couples soon find out that participating in the therapy is not an option. It's a vacation that goes from good to bad. However, all the monkey business actually restores the relationships in the end.

    The Hangover
Talk about a bachelor party gone wrong. Not only do Bradley Cooper (Phil), Ed Elms (Stu), and Zach Galifianakis (Alan) literally lose the groom (played by Justin Bartha) in Las Vegas just one day before he's to be married, but they can't remember a single thing from the previous night. They go on a wild goose chase in Sin City to find their friend but instead encounter things like a taser gun, a tiger, and a few missing teeth along the way.

    Vacation
National Lampoon's Vacation made in 1983 is the quintessential movie of a family vacation gone horribly wrong. The Griswold family (Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Anthony Michael Hall, and Dana Barron) set out for what they think is going to be the best vacation ever. But for all their planning, nothing could be farther from the truth. Chevy Chase (Clark) plowing the station wagon through a roadblock and tying cranky Aunt Edna's corpse to the hood of the car are just some of the obstacles they meet along the way. But the very worst happens when their goal to have a fun family vacation at Wally World Amusement Park proves to be a big let down when they soon discover it's closed. This forces Clark to take matters into his own hands by pulling a gun on security (John Candy) to let them enter and ride anyway.

    Weekend at Bernie's
Andrew McCarthy (Larry) and Jonathan Silverman (Richard) thought they were simply going to have a weekend of rest and relaxation at their ultra-expensive boss's (Terry Kiser) beach house - except when they get there they find him dead. They spend the weekend pretending he's alive by carting his lifeless body around to avoid getting killed themselves by a hit-man.

    The Great Outdoors
The Great Outdoors is a classic summer movie about a guy named Chet (John Candy) who simply wants to take his family to the lake to find peace and relaxation. However, once his brother-in-law Roman (Dan Aykroyd) shows up, his plans are ruined as he spends the rest of the weekend competing with him instead of having fun with his family. Stephanie Faracy and Annette Bening co-star.

Hopefully none of your family vacations end up in such chaos, and you make it out of your next vacation alive (and with all of your teeth.) The next time you find yourself on a boring camping trip or at a dreaded family reunion, just remember—things could be worse.
