They will surely use this as a way to demonize any criticism of the government as if Loughner was some kind of patriotic terrorist. Meanwhile on his youtube page he lists Mein Kampf and A Communist Manifesto as two of his favorite books. The guy was effing crazy. He talked to imaginary birds…..

The only complaint I have is that the psychiatrist was talking about local issues, but this was the attempted assassination of a United States Congresswoman and successful murder of a Federal Judge. That is a national issue. This is definitely a disturbing trend in the media and the news stations are clearly sensationalizing this story as well, but some level of sensation is inherent in a story of this magnitude. Some of the things shown in this story are going to be reproduced in the current shooting story. We’ve already seen the picture of Loughner standing by a giant crossword puzzle, apropos of nothing. The saturation of the story is going to continue for much too long. There are going to be flashy lead-in visuals. There’s going to be a lot of disgusting coverage that will do no good. But that’s not to say that there isn’t a level of coverage above what the forensic psychologist was talking about that’s appropriate here.

WTF? The Tucson shooting isn’t just another school shooting. It’s a politically-motivated assassination attempt of United States Congressman. It’s being treated as news because it is, in fact, serious news.

If we weren’t so captivated by violence and gore, this wouldn’t be an issue. If we shunned the violent and their actions, desperate people wouldn’t see blasting away 50 people in a crowd as a way to get attention. The fact that this keeps happening is not the fault of the media. Rather, it’s those human character flaws that draw us all to violence.

The news stations will not stop sensationalizing these cases as long as society continues to tune in around the clock for updates. The day people can hear of a mass shooting, think “oh that sucks” and move on, will be the day the news moves on as well. But as long as we’re all tuning in, they’ll do what they can to get their money’s worth out of a story. The news business is still a business.

…and if you dont if you dont, i forsee more killings within weeks. sensational!
