Having been a 911 dispatcher for many years, I also answered Street Department calls after hours. Everyone who called was po’d about something…why aren’t the alley’s plowed…why did that cross street get plowed and not my side street…the plows blocked my driveway in…the plows buried my car, yada, yada, yada. It took more energy and time away from the REAL emergency calls that we just told them we would forward their complaint, which we did when time allowed. In reality, the St. Dept. guys were working their butts off. Priority was the expressways, then major roads, police and fire requests, etc. After the main stuff was done, they would try to get to the smaller streets. That is, if we didn’t get slammed with another large storm. I even had complaints about how loud the plows or salt trucks were in the early morning hours! I worked with a bunch of great guys and gals. There are many hazards and tough conditions running snow plows and salt trucks. Many times working double shifts. They don’t make the routes or set the priorities, but they still get the job done. Hats off to them!!!!
