Deansy a year agoshould they be handling the birds with bare hands? I always thought the rule was to wear gloves as to not put a human scent on the bird and the mother may not accept it?

stefanieb2 a year agothat rule was first put out by bird societies so people would leave chicks fallen out of nests alone, as most of the time the mother bird can still take care of it and random people who take chicks home can’t take care of them properly, so it was simpler to say oh your hurting it of you touch them so baby bird were left alone rather than be man handled by people

iano a year agoTotally false. Mama birds couldn’t care less about human scent, even if they could detect it. Most birds don’t really rely on their scent of smell much, anyway, so it’s not even clear that they COULD smell humans on their chicks, and, in any case, it’s clear that they don’t care.
