• To Maggie at NOM: In 1875, a majority of North Carolinians also ratified a Constitutional amendment banning interracial marriage: “All marriages between a white person and a negro, or between a white person or descent to the third generation inclusively, are hereby forever prohibited.” — Sounds pretty repugnant and bigoted in 2012, doesn’t it? That’s some nice company you’ve got there, Maggie. History doesn’t look very kindly on those that promoted discrimination. Here’s a little history lesson for you and your ilk: Less than a century ago, 30 states passed laws that banned interracial marriage. Sound familiar? The Supreme Court disregarded the “will of the people” and stood up for the civil rights of the minority. History has a way of repeating itself.
