Calliefornia 5 months agoyeah this sucks… because the original was soooooooo wonderful, right? you can’t do a good cover on a shitty song. glee does great covers 99.99% of the time, so don’t hate.

I know! Glee makes great covers. Didn’t we all loved their version of “Call me maybe”? And their Coldplay covers? And their version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” was so much better than the original! Wait, no. Glee has done like… five? memorable covers. And Gangnam Style isn’t a shitty song… Or, well, yes, it is. But it is a shitty song on purpose. It’s satire. But this? As far as I know, this is the only song they are doing for Sectionals. We are supposed to believe they win with this song. They aren’t playing it for laughs.

Klo732 5 months agoGotta disagree on them doing mostly poor covers. They’ve introduced me to songs I never would have liked otherwise and most of the people on the show are excellent singers. Sure their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t better than the original, but come on, is that possible for anyone to do? Their cover of Queen’s Someone to Love was very very good though. But I do agree that I don’t think they should do this song for Sectionals. I enjoy the silly pop music on this show but it does really bother me when they use songs like this for competitions. In competitions I prefer songs that really show off their talented voices.

MTE. If they had done Gangnam Style for a “fun” number like “Sexy and I know it” it would still be horrible, but it would be fun horrible. While some of the cast is very talented, they rarely use the cast right. Kevin could have been good for this song (as he actually likes K-pop), for example. Jenna and Chris are very talented, but they rarely give them solos/duets. Lea is awesome but, imo, she doesn’t sound good in pop songs. Naya and Amber are fantastic but, afaik, they aren’t regulars anymore (and they didn’t use them that much when they were). The rest aren’t that good, but they do sound good when they choose the right songs for them. The newbies are plain boring and Darren is overused and, somehow, manages to sound exactly the same in every song. I didn’t like their cover of Somebody to love. I think the last number they have done right was the Adele mash-up. This season has been full of second-hand embarrassment.
