‘How I Met Your Mother’ Uses Time Traveling Advertisements
In a recent rerun of a 2007 episode of the show 'How I Met Your Mother,' CBS digitally altered the background of a scene to display an ad for Kevin James: Zookeeper, which, of course, is an ad for a movie from 2011. Or maybe they didn't. Maybe it's just one big conspiracy!?

I'm not against the idea of digital product placement, but I think this is the wrong product in the wrong show to do it. How I Met Your Mother follows a pretty specific chronology and often refers to the year an episode takes place. An ad for a movie sets a time very different from that of the episode, whereas other products could be placed without such an issue. Then again, they have shown Bob Saget's Future-Ted to be a fallible narrator, so maybe it can just play into that. At least it only affects broadcast episodes and not DVD compilations, though with net-connected Blu-Ray players, I could see them doing that in the future.
