Can You Make It Through This Post Without Having Your Mind Blown?

Are you sitting down? You better be sitting down.

I know, right? Now tell your friends!
Can You Make It Through This Post Without ...

1. Let’s start small:

Via: ign.com

2. Here’s something that you never realized:

3. While we’re at it, here’s some more famous voice actors:

That’s Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911) and Rocko from Rocko’s Modern Life, Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) and Fran from Dinosaurs, and James Avery (Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince) and Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

4. Here’s the right way to eat a cupcake:

5. And cheetos:

6. Now get ready to have your childhood mind blown:

Moving on…

9. DID YOU KNOW? The “YKK” on your zipper stands for “Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikigaisha:”

10. DID YOU KNOW? 3.14 is PIE backwards:

11. DID YOU KNOW? The dot over over an “i” is called a “tittle:”

12. DID YOU KNOW? Cashews grow like this:

13. And pineapples like this:

14. Before we move on, here’s the ending to “Inception” explained:

15. Now let’s shrink things down. Here’s what velcro looks like close up:

16. Here’s what chalk looks like under a microscope:

Via: npr.org

17. And here’s what sand looks like under a microscope:

18. Speaking of sand, there are more stars in space than there are grains of sand on every beach on Earth:

Thanks to Carl Sagan for this knowledge.

Let’s go deeper:

19. If you shrunk the Sun down to the size of a white blood cell and shrunk the Milky Way Galaxy down using the same scale, it would be the size of the continental United States:

20. Speaking of things that are huge, a Blue Whale’s heart is so big, a small child can swim through the veins:

21. There’s enough water in Lake Superior to cover all of North and South America in one foot of water:

22. Here’s the true size of Africa:

23. And the Pacific Ocean:

24. Let’s think bigger: If you dug a hole to the center of the Earth and dropped a book down, it would take 45 minutes to reach the bottom:

25. Here’s what Jupiter would look like if it were the same distance to Earth as the Moon:

26. And here’s what a sunset on Mars looks like:

Too much? Just breathe:

27. DID YOU KNOW? There are more bacteria cells in your body than actual body cells:

Anywhere from 2 to 9 pounds of them. We’re more bacteria than we are human!

28. DID YOU KNOW? John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States, has a grandson that’s alive today:

John Tyler had a son, Lyon, when he was 63. Lyon had a son, Harrison Tyler, at 75.

29. DID YOU KNOW? A compressed spring weighs more than a relaxed one:

30. JUST THINK: We know more about the surface of the moon than the bottom of the ocean:

31. Speaking of the ocean, there are more atoms in a glass of water than glasses of water in all the oceans on Earth:

Now let’s talk about time:

36. Speaking of time: The Ottoman Empire still existed the last time the Chicago Cubs won a World Series:

37. Keep this in mind, too:

Mind not blown yet? Things are about to get REAL:

38. The Great Pyramid was built circa 2560 BC…

… and Cleopatra lived 69 BC – 30 BC…

… and the first Moon landing was in 1969, AD…

… which means Cleopatra lived closer to the Moon landing than she did to the building of the Great Pyramid.

39. Speaking of the pyramids, they were as old to the Romans as the Romans are to us:

40. Should we keep going? The difference in time between when Tyrannosaurus Rex and Stegosaurus lived is greater than the difference in time between Tyrannosaurus Rex and now:

41. Here’s one more: In 1903 the Wright Brothers flew for the first time…

…38 years later, in 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor…

… and 28 years later, in 1969, man landed on the Moon.

That’s 66 years.

PHEW! That was intense. Here’s a picture of a puppy burrito (puprito) to chill you out:

The whale thing is wrong. A blue whale’s largest blood vessel, the aorta, is only 9 inches (22.5 cm) across: quite a squeeze for even the tiniest newborn baby, and certainly too narrow for any child old enough to swim.

Does #31 make sense? I couldn’t comprehend what it was trying to say. “Speaking of the ocean, there are more atoms in a glass of water than glasses of water in all the oceans on Earth:”

      • kat4283 a month ago

Okay, take a regular glass of water and use it to empty all the oceans of the world into a gigantic container floating in outer space. Now, the number of times you dipped that glass into the water is still smaller than the number of atoms that make up the water in that first glass. It’s a scale comparison. Atoms are TINY.

Cute, but hardly mind-blowing to anyone who paid attention in school and/or reads scientific magazines and surfs the Internet on a regular basis. The visuals help place information already obtained in greater context, but I’m sure most of the people who click on this type of article are people who have already absorbed this data repeatedly. And the puppy burrito is just gratuitous nonsense as a last ditch effort to add shock value. Seriously people, if your mind was blown by anything in this article, you need to put down that tabloid that’s not going to tell you anything new about Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt or Jennifer Anniston and read something substantial like Scientific American or National Geographic.

wish that stuff about the spring weighing more was “amazing”. mathematically the mass increases when energy is added to it, but that amount of energy to mass equivalence is unmeasurable. essentially, if you were outside in the cold and then walked into a warm room, you gained mass because the energy from the heat in the room transfers to your body. Any kind of energy transfer makes “some” change to mass, however it is not evident until there are ENORMOUS amounts of energy transferred…

Japan bombs a small low-population area in the middle of nowhere. America responds by nuking 2 huge cities full of women & children & caused a hereditary cancer that still effecting citizens to this day.

      • Andy 3 months ago

Japan did more than that. It’s not like they didn’t realize they were attacking a nation they weren’t at war with, and it’s not like it’s okay to bomb anyone based on location or population. Also, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were certainly not the first civilian cities to be bombed; several European cities on both sides of the war endured bombings resulting in civilian deaths. Japan was even warned that they would be bombed, but they ignored Truman’s ultimatum. America didn’t even start off by bombing them, the way they did to us. The Allies fought against Japan for years before they realized extreme measures would have to be taken.

In addition to siding with the Nazis, (which is bad enough, I would think.) Japan was forcibly taking over many of its neighboring countries. By attacking Pearl Harbor they pretty much declared that America would be the next country they would overtake. (You have to keep in mind that Japan truly did believe that it possessed the military strength to take over the world.) That’s a pretty serious threat, considering what they were doing to the civilians of the other countries they had captured or were trying to capture. As unpleasant as it sounds, Japan really wasn’t the helpless victim you make them out to be. It’s unfortunate that the U.S. decided to use nuclear weapons against Japan, and I certainly hope it never happens again, but if it didn’t end the way it did the war would have lasted MUCH longer and MANY more people would have died.
