“…in court documents examined exclusively by BuzzFeed Shift…” Remind me, BuzzFeed Shift and Jessica Testa, where you’re admitted to practice law. Until then, spare us your uneducated legal analysis. As for this Wang chick? She deliberately monkeyed with the system to make it appear she was receiving college credit, and now she’s complaining because she was too dumb to quit an unpaid, uncredited internship. No sympathy. It’s like shooting yourself in the face then campaigning for gun trigger locks. Remember, kids: There is nothing left to lose.

“Too dumb to quit an unpaid, uncredited internship. No sympathy.” Hearst commits a crime, you blame the victim. Any unpaid internship is criminal, even if there is credit, if it benefits the company. Unpaid internships are for learning only. If she was acting as a private shipping service, the company is required to compensate her with pay. Unpaid interns are not free labor. They are students who you are teaching. If they are also providing a benefit to the company, they must be paid interns.
