These people, they just say stuff. As long as there are Jon Stewarts who’ll swallow it whole, predigest it and spew it in chunks back out to his limited public, they’ll keep shoveling it. Hard to believe the culture has come to this; that such remarkably talent-free, junior-high-mentality, marginal personalities as Maher and Stewart can confer status on accomplishment-free, politically-inflated marginal personalities like the first couple.  In Rome Nero played lute (there were no fiddles) and forced his terrorized followers to listen to his bad poetry while the city burned. That sort of pastime was what passed for an evening’s entertainment back then. This is the modern equivalent. These days the USA is crumbling around our ears and what we get is this kind of fatuous log-rolling, on a so-called comedy channel, and zombie pseudo-hipsters everywhere are afraid not to watch lest they be caught unawares of the latest snark belched by “entertainers” not worthy to shine Groucho’s or Henny’s or Rodney’s shoes. Isn’t that self-evident enough? Fifty years from now who will instantly break into a smile on hearing Jon’s or Bill’s first name alone? However, politically, fifty years from now, the first name Barack will be a punchline.
