People want the government to take care of them. Obviously people can’t chose a healthy alternatives themselves. Prohibiting businesses from selling a product for the “well being” of others. That’s Government Regulation.
You can still buy and drink all the sugar water you want, Homer. Don’t worry. You’re still free to die of type 2 at the state’s expense.
How about if I believed that organic food should be banned because it takes more land and energy to grow it. Harvest yields are lower than for non-organic crops so why not get rid of them since they aren’t efficient enough. Makes sense doesn’t it? It makes as much sense as Bloombergs soda rule. People should be able to choose what they eat and drink. Government should have no say in that or whether you get a small or large.
These idiots don’t realize there is NO PROHIBITION. There is NO LIMIT on how much you can drink. There is NO PERSONAL FREEDOM LOST. The only rule is for BUSINESSES, NOT PEOPLE. Businesses will limit their drinks to a maximum of ONE POUND OF SODA EACH. If you want more than one pound of soda, THAT IS FINE, get more than a pound of soda. Get 100 pounds of soda. Get a million. There is NO LIMIT.
Though I don’t particularly care for this specific rule (I don’t drink soft drinks), I fear the precedent set by this: “you people don’t know any better so we are going to force a rule on you”. Slippery slope. While I agree that the vast majority of people are simple (I don’t exclude myself), it takes a special kind of arrogance to regulate the size of soft drinks. To this I say: 1) what’s stopping me from buying two soft drinks
2) I’ll make myself fat in other ways What’s next, a ban on everything but vegetables?
