You mean there were emo bands before Fall Out Boy?

Ok, first off the Descendents have nothing to do with emo period. Second the Get Up Kids where born to late. The godfathers of EMO where the Rites Of Spring who formed in '84 broke it up in '86 and produced some real amazing work in their time.

Go listen to the two new remastered Sunny Day Real Estate albums and thank whoever invented Emo. The Get Up Kids have nothing to be ashamed of either. It's not their fault that mascara rock started aping a great genre.

ian mackaye has been asked way too much about this topic already, but a roundtable of him and guy picciotto, blake schwarzenbach and jeremy enigk would be amazing.

I saw TGUK on this reunion tour on Monday, and it definitely made me feel old. It's weird to explain to the glam-rock, goth-looking “emos” (and no one ever said “emos” back in the day) that it wasn't always like this. Anyhow. Get off my lawn, yadda yadda yadda.

the get up kids “created emo”?!?! listen, i actually like the get up kids, but that's like maroon 5 apologizing for creating rock and roll.

I would like to make a case for Rites of Spring as the first emo band.
