I’m a non-drinking American, and I’ve never experienced hostility toward me because of that outside of continental Europe, where I was forced to accept it as par for the course.
I don’t drink [anymore] because I’m in pain management for a chronic, incurable and painful disease. I would rather people think I’m some ‘freak who doesn’t drink’ than subject myself to the stigma of being 24 and on daily long-term narcotics. Especially around coworkers.
