I never comment on articles. Even when I don’t agree with the author, I don’t feel the need to share my opinion. This article is different. I know that Buzzfeed pumps out new content at crazy speeds and that the speed in which they create new content is vital to their business model, but they should have thought more before publishing this article. An article entitled, “23 Reasons that Turkey Is the World’s Melting Pot”, is offensive on it’s face. Within the last 100 years Turkey has committed, genocide against the Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians and Kurds. They have been found guilty of terrible human rights violations against all of their ethnic minorities. How can a country who has taken every opportunity to rid its culture of different peoples, be considered the world’s mixing pot? As a person who had family members killed by the Turkish government during a process to rid their country of ethnic minorities who have been there since time immemorial, this article is a disgrace. I am not accusing the author of being racist or uncaring, but something worse, uninformed. If you don’t know what you are talking about, you shouldn’t be writing an article. I understand that Buzzfeed isn’t the New York Times but I still believe that it has some responsibility for its content. Shame on you. Shame on you Buzzfeed.
