    5 DIY Weekend Projects

Have a weekend? Have Pinterest? Then here's five home improvement projects from Pinterest that you can tackle in a weekend.

    By Haley Shapley www.associaliving.com

Pinterest, the wildly popular website that's the online equivalent of a pinboard, is a veritable treasure trove of ideas for just about anything creative under the sun. If you can dream it, someone on Pinterest has done it. Looking for a way to spruce up your digs? Here are five home improvement projects from the site that you can tackle in a weekend.

    Create a Gallery Wall

Salon-style art walls were de rigueur centuries ago but faded in popularity as giving each painting plenty of its own space came into style. Now this method of clustering artwork together to make a gallery wall is back in a big way. Don't be afraid to mix and match different types of frames and colors. Remember, it's an art, not a science — but you can make sure you get an outcome you'll be happy to look at every day with this tutorial, which recommends starting the arranging process with scaled paper cutouts of the frames you have, among other helpful tidbits.

Convert Your Toilet to Dual Flush

Sure, improving your toilet may not be the most exciting project you'll tackle, but it saves both money and the earth's resources, so it's definitely a worthwhile endeavor. John from Young House Love takes readers step by step through purchasing a converter kit (for around $20) and making the easy install. Your same old commode will now be new and improved, sporting two flush settings, which will help to conserve water.

    Stencil a Rug

A plain white rug becomes a beautiful Moroccan-patterned piece when following this lesson featured on Remodelaholic. It requires some math, plywood, paint and patience, but in the end, you'll have a striking Moroccan rug at a budget price — and one that isn't in anyone else's house.

    Remove Old Wallpaper

Some home improvement projects are really fun. Unless you delight in tedious, often frustrating work, this unfortunately isn't one of them. That doesn't mean it's not important, especially if you're beyond ready to give your '70s wallpaper the old heave-ho and replace it with a nice, far-easier-to-change-in-the-future coat of paint. This detailed guide to wallpaper removal lets you in on all the tricks and tips you need to know. (Yes, every single bit of paste has to come off — you'll be glad later.) Set aside an entire weekend for this project.

    Transform a Full-Length Mirror

Do you have one of those plain $5 full-length mirrors from a big-box store propped listlessly against your bedroom or closet wall? Make it a whole lot cuter with this idea from Shanty 2 Chic. A few fence posts, a wooden scroll, some paint, screws, and a bit of glue later (plus a little manual labor — but that's the fun part, right?), and you'll have a super-stylish mirror worth reflecting on.
