6 Things That Suck About Skype Calls

Oh, Skype. It’s a love/hate relationship. The go to app for business meetings and keeping in touch with family and friends has it’s quirks. How many of these six mishaps have you had happen on a Skype call? I’ve experienced all six…in the last week.

1. Can you hear me now?

You’re talking but you can’t hear the person on the other end. It’s vaguely reminiscent of those old Verizon commercials.

2. That weird echo.

It’s almost like you’re talking to yourself. You say something only to hear your echo respond three seconds later.

3. The delay.

There’s nothing quite like having an important business or personal conversation with a 20 second delay.

4. Dropped calls.

Queue popup message: “Skype has stopped working and has shut down.” And it’s always the perfect timing when this happens too.

5. Language barrier issues.

Okay this one technically isn’t a Skype issue. But having business convos with people internationally would be a lot easier if there was a built in feature that helped us translate. (Side note: this promising, new app offers on the fly instantaneous translation).

6. When the video freezes.

You’re in the middle of a video call and suddenly the video freezes. And it’s always during your most awkward, hideous moment.

Skype is useful, no doubt about that. But, if I have to have a conversation with my own echo one more time, I just might start exploring my other messaging options.
