5 Reasons Why We Love Downton Abbey

As we wait for the fourth season of Downton Abbey to hit our TV screens, it’s an opportune moment to reflect on just why this show is so popular. With a massive viewership and several awards under its belt, this show has a lot to offer:

1. It's funny! Very funny...

2. The Cast are AWESOME!

And we can't get enough of Hugh Bonneville and Jim Carter! Plus, Maggie Smith and Shirley Maclaine... Simply brilliant!

3. The Costumes

Go on, admit it... you would love to spend a day dresssed up to the nines like this!

4. The Pent Up Victorian Passion

You do get it in a lot of period dramas. Ever watched the Tudors? You can’t honestly imagine the story of Henry VIII without it, can you? On the other hand, you wouldn’t expect it in Downton Abbey, so you may find yourself just as shocked as they would have been at Lady Mary’s indiscretions.

5. Decidedly Not Seedy

It's proper posh! Sometimes it seems that everything else falls into the documentary, talk show, or trashy reality series. Not Downton... Downton is just pure class!

Things we have that they didn't...

There are of course a few things we've got in the modern world that the family at Downton Abbey didn't have!

That includes everything from toasters to laptons, ipads to smartphones. It's much easier to clean our houses and vaccum our carpets (ourselves, not the maid) with today's high powered electric gadgets and central heating and air conditioning is a god send!

And, although everyone pictures themselves upstairs, the likelihood is that most of us would live downstairs.

So, we can be grateful for these few things at least although I still fancy an afternoon walking around town dressed as a Victorian! Do you think anoyone will notice?
