Facebook Refused To Take Down Homophobic Comments

In an attempt to take down a bullying page, I recently found out Facebook was not quite as helpful as i thought in bullying situation. In an era where hiding behind your screen is quite easy and makes you feel invincible, shouldn't facebook's principal goal be to protect their users?

Even thought Facebook prides their anti-bullying laws, some things just seem not to apply to these laws, like homophobia. At first some pages may look inoffensive, just people protecting heterosexual laws. But by looking at comments on a few pages you can see quite a few alarming topics. One of these pages is called Heterosexual Pride. The manager of this page has quite a narrow way of thinking, homosexuality is wrong, and seems to have 11 000 users in agreement with him. Drinking a glass of wine may not have helped the frustration I felt when my eyes crossed some of the comments. "I hate homos, they should all die of AIDS" was the only one Facebook agreed to take down, thank the lord.

As i was reporting comments after comments, my adrenaline kicked in and my tipsy mind thought i should do something more about it. So on a few very homophobic posts I posted a picture comparing the folks that fought against "Race mixing" to today's homophobes. And they did nooooot like that. And their answer would not hide any of their disapproval, believe me.

The next day my newsfeed was full of comments from them. Not only did they erase my comments, but tagged me repeatedly insulting me and the gay community on their page, that i was now blocked of. I could not reply, I could not remove the tags, and for Facebook it didn't violate their community standards. I felt powerless and vulnerable to all those "haters" who could easily see my name, harass me.

With the help of a lot of friends, I tried to take the page down. We are more than 50 to have reported the page and nothing as been done since, by Facebook. Even thought they clearly specify that these behaviours are considered abusive in the help center "Posting things that violate our Community Standards (ex: nudity, threats, hate speech or graphic violence).Using Facebook to bully, impersonate or harass anyone.",nothing as been done but to reject every report that was sent.

The reason i wrote this article is that i need all the help I can get to report this heinous page and restore the peace on my Facebook account. #Liveandletlive.

To help, go on Facebook and report Heterosexul Pride's page.
