Gandhi’s Letter To Adolf Hitler
Hitler almost wiped out an entire race of people, but in this letter pleading with him not to start WWII, Ghandi wrote that he still considered himself Hitler’s “sincere friend”. That takes some serious pacifism.

misl 10 months agoThis letter is dated in the year 1939 - way before the world (OR GANDHI) knew the ugly mess the Nazis were planning, doing or were. DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS !!!!! Richard Parker 10 months agoM.K. Gandhi was *not* a pacifist. He used civil resistance based on principles of truth and nonviolence, satya and ahimsa, to achieve peace. He would have been the first to admit his imperfections, but he did hold fast to these two ideals. In my opinion, it is harmful to post a letter like this. Our American schools are no longer permitted to provide the depth of knowledge it takes to properly interpret such a letter in its historical context. To put it in unforgivably simplistic terms, Gandhi could not possibly see Hitler and Nazi Germany as we see them now. For a current parallel, how much do you think you know about the situation in Afghanistan? In short, this letter should be interpreted as an example of Gandhi holding fast to his principles while attempting to use his leadership to help the world.
