20 Best Series Finales Of All Time

With the upcoming finales of Dexter and Breaking Bad, which are sure to blow our minds, I decided to recall the best, most tearjerking, most WTF, series finales of television history. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

20. The Office

This episode may not have made us hysterically laugh as previous ones. And it may not have featured as much Steve Carell as fans wanted. But don't lie, you had a little tear in your eye when the grey-haired Michael did show up to be Dwight's best man.

19. Sex and the City

Every women's dream come true. The love of your life finds you on a bridge and Paris and you can finally be together. Men take note, if you want to impress a girl reenact this scene. The rest of the girls, have also settled down and seems that this is the end of their wild sex in the city stories.

18. Battlestar Galactica

A fresh start is the theme to this finale, which has the survivors discovering "Earth." They decided to separate and blend into the existing cultures, leaving behind technology. In its own way it had a happy ending.

17. Friends

Ross and Rachel 4Ever. But actually. The six friends finally bid goodbye to each other and to their insanely nice New York apartment. Giving us at home the much need closure.

16. The Cosby Show

After eight years of parental wisdom Bill Cosby finally said goodbye. Everyone comes back for Theo's college graduation. But the memorable part is when Cliff and Clair start dancing in their living room and then literally off the set.

15. 24

The President of the United States turns herself in, but now both the Russians and Americans after him and Jack Bauer must disappear. In the end Chloe who has always had his back turns off the cameras and the clock flashes to 00:00.

14. Dawson's Creek

Dawson or Pacey? The finale took us ten years in the future to finally answer that question. And in the end the ambiguous phone call ends and Joey chooses bad boy Pacey, fulfilling every teenager girls dream. Poor Dawson.

13. Six Feet Under

The finale started with a birth instead of a death and the rest of the show wraps things up. At the very end there is montage of flash-forwards depicting everyone's eventual death, set to "Breathe Me," its the perfect end to a show all about death.

12. The Shield

The finale showed us the destiny for Vic and its being a desk jockey. Although we were rooting for him to get away with it all, he is punished with doing paper work, worse than jail.

11. Friday Night Lights

This show took viewers on an emotional roller coaster and the finale wraps up everyone's stories so perfectly. Coach Taylor moves to Philadelphia, while Riggins declares "Texas Forever." It end with "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose." (Although no one had clear eyes)

10. The Wire

No Dukie No! The Wire was never a happy show and the finale reflected that. Although Bubbles did get clean finally, Carcetti became governor and Carver lieutenant, that scene with Dukie about to shoot-up ended it on a sad sad note.

9. Seinfeld

Everyone, I mean everyone who ever made an appearance on this show comes back for the series finale, which has the four stars on trial for "doing nothing."

8. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This cult show ended with a bang. Literally it ended with the town of Sunnydale sinking into a giant crater. Don't worry Buffy and most of her friends survived and will continue to kick ass.

7. Cheers

Diane finally comes back to find her true love Sam. Sam and her decided to go to California to spend their lives together. But at the last minute Sam leaves the plane for his "one true love," his bar. And all his restored.

6. LOST

WTF. I'm still confused over this. One minute there on the island, then there's an alternate universe, then there all in church. Did I really just spend six years of my life, watching and hypothesizing over this show? Double WTF.

5. The Mary Tyler Moore Show

Don't know how to end a show, well why not just fire everyone. That's what The Mary Tyler Moore Show did, fired everyone except Ted. But the final moments were the absolute best, as the large huddle moved towards the box of tissues so did we at home.

4. M*A*S*H*

The most watch television broadcast in American history is still the M*A*S*H* series finale. The war as come to an end and everyone starts to depart. It ends when BJ leaves this memorable message for his old pal Hawkeye.

3. The Sopranos

Never before have so many viewers thought their TVs broke. What's going to happen to Tony to his family, to that guy who went to the bathroom. Cut to black, not cool HBO.

2. St. Elsewhere

The original WTF moment. Those who tuned in every week for six years where shocked to find that the whole thing was made up by an autistic boy with a fancy snow globe. I mean really who has a snow globe of hospital.

1. Newhart

If only ever TV show could end is such an epic way. Dick Loudon gets hit with a golf ball and collapses. When he wakes up in bed, he is dressed as Dr. Bob Hartley, Bob Newhart's character from his previous TV show "The Bob Newhart Show." Bob turns to his wife, Emily, again from "The Bob Newhart Show," and says "I just had the strangest dream that I was a innkeeper in Vermont."
