1. On a map, home often appears in the wrong place, inside a box.
2. And home sometimes looks scary
3. People always question or make fun of your accent and you constantly need to explain that all 9 islands have different and distinctive accents (what they call the "azorian accent" is ONLY spoken in the island of S.Miguel)
4. People have asked you if you have electricity or running water (or at least, it crossed their minds)
5. Or if you had to swim to visit the other islands after waiting for the tide to turn
6. You like being Azorian but you are very proud to be Portuguese and you feel insulted when other Portuguese don't know the names of the islands and still ask stupid questions or make rude comments
7. You smile when other people complain about bad weather because they have probably never been stuck on an island , without flight connections, during a tropical storm.
8. You spent most of your childhood outside and you can't imagine living away from nature
9. You got your newspapers and mail orders quite late, depending on flight delays and climate conditions
10. You never know exactly which season it is because the weather keeps changing
11. You try to keep your distance from them because you know how it hurts
12. You know what this is and you probably think it's delicious
13. You have family somewhere in Canada or in the U.S.A. and some of them you have never met
14. Your favourite band will hardly ever tour your city
15. You have a love-hate relationship with planes (especially because of flight prices)
16. You spend most of your Summer swimming around volcanic rocks
17. You are an expert at driving in fog
18. You know how strange and funny they sound at night
19. You are proud that in Azores there is the oldest tea plantation and active production factory in Europe and you know at least one person addicted to their tea
20. You are well-acquainted with their company at sea
21. When you are away, you miss many things that only taste good at home (especially butter)
22. You never had problems with traffic (except maybe with cows)
23. Earthquakes and volcanoes scare you but they also teach you that in Azores, people and nature will always adapt
24. You still secretly believe that the Azores are the remains of the mythical Atlantis
25. You thought growing up in Azores was quite good, but now that you are older, you are sure - you were VERY lucky.
