Michigan Senate Candidate’s Anti-Chinese Super Bowl Ad
Pete Hoekstra doesn’t do subtle.
UPDATE: The Hoekstra campaign called the advertisement “satirical” and explained the broken English in the video as a reflection of China’s increasingly competitive education system.
“You have a Chinese girl speaking English — I want to hit on the education system, essentially. The fact that a Chinese girl is speaking English is a testament to how they can compete with us, when an American boy of the same age speaking Mandarin is absolutely insane, or unthinkable right now,” Hoekstra spokesperson Paul Ciaramitaro told POLITICO. “It exhibits another way in which China is competing with us globally.”

lchen12345 a year agoLet’s say that his message was about ‘education’ and ‘competition’. How does ‘spend not’ any money correlate to making our kids in the US competitive in a global market, where apparently they can speak english but you don’t speak another language? Republicans don’t even want teachers to have accents, and bilingual education is un-american. Where in his message was he going to rectify this by not spending any money.

christianh4 a year agoWow. Holy fuck is that racist. I mean, who greenlit this ad? Did no one stop and think, “Wait, maybe this will make us look like complete assholes to everyone with a brain.”? And he’s actually in the ad himself, so he can’t deny that he approved it. Good lord, what an idiot.
