Gay Marriage Advocates Take On The Democratic Party
More than 20 Democratic Senators and gay rights groups are pushing the party to adopt a platform plank in support of same-sex marriage, Huffington Post reported. But President Obama is against it. He says he’s “evolving.” Here’s the language they want in the platform, from the group Freedom to Marry.
Proposed Platform Plank
The Democratic Party supports the full inclusion of all families in the life of our nation, with equal respect, responsibility, and protection under the law, including the freedom to marry. Government has no business putting barriers in the path of people seeking to care for their family members, particularly in challenging economic times. We support the Respect for Marriage Act and the overturning of the federal so-called “Defense of Marriage Act,” and oppose discriminatory constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny the freedom to marry to loving and committed same-sex couples.

There will come a time when it is, more people are seeing the light every day, and I hope that my generation will look back on it as the baby boomers do on the horrors of Jim crow laws

adam y. a year agoGood for Obama :) Way to stand up for his values and stick to the position he professed when this country elected him. The government is not “putting barriers” anywhere. They simply won’t grant the same special privileges as marriage to an alternate type of relationship that does not serve the same biological or sociological function, or fit the definition of marriage. Gay people have the same freedom to get married as everyone else but they choose of their own free will to engage in other relationships instead.
