On January 24, 1961, Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Yosemite Sam, Woody Woodpecker, Barney Rubble, and about 1,500 other characters, was involved in a near-fatal car accident.
Hit head-on, Blanc suffered a triple skull fracture that left him in a coma for two weeks. Unresponsive his neurosurgeon attempted to pull him out of it by addressing him as Bugs Bunny, amazingly Blanc responded “What’s up, Doc?,” in character.
