Sunderland and England footballer Adam Johnson has been arrested today on suspicion of sex with an under-age girl.
The Mirror is reporting that a van and team of plain clothes officers were spotted outside his County Durham mansion early this morning.
The allegations come after Johnson - his club's top goalscorer this season - played in Sunderland's 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
A police spokesperson stated: "A 27 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a girl aged under 16. He remains in police custody."
While not a regular on the international scene, the winger has played 12 times for England, scoring two goals.
