Just So You Know, Bluebottles Aren't Jellyfish

I know right?

All Australians have had their encounters with the dreaded bluebottle.

These mean suckers have been giving beach-goers nasty stings for generations. But a lot of people think they're just normal, everyday jellyfish.

Well, (and if you did already know this I'm sorry) turns out bluebottles aren't jellyfish at all.

They're actually siphonophores. Although a lot of people consider them jellyfish because of their stinging tentacles, the bluebottle isn't a multicellular organism - it's a colony of tiny little creatures called zooids.

And they also go by the technical name of Portuguese Man O' War.
