Australia Needs Joey Pouches, Not Koala Mittens, For Its Injured Wildlife

The IFAW now have a stockroom full of koala mittens - and have now turned their attention to injured kangaroos.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare has today launched “Project Pouch,” an initiative to help injured kangaroos, possums and wallabies recover from injury suffered during the recent South Australian bush fires.

They are supplying a joey pouch pattern for people to use when they sew at home, and are hoping to get a similar response to the call for koala mittens made last week.

The pouches act as a mimic to the marsupial pouches of kangaroo mothers, a warm and quiet environment for them to recover in.

Unfortunately, the pouches need to be changed multiple times during the day, which has lead to the call for volunteers to help with supplying them.
