bens7 2 months agoPeople are idiots. John McCain is right. You’re not going to round up 11 million people and “ship ‘em off to their home country,” even if Obama is trying his damndest (the “deporter in chief” has shipped off about 1.5 million as of July 2012 http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/president-obama-deporterchief). It’s only been about 20 years that we’ve even had a restrictive immigration policy with Mexico. In fact, Reagan’s administration implemented the last great amnesty that legalized over 3 million undocumented immigrants. The truth of the matter is that while unprotected boarders do pose a threat to national security, Mexican and other hispanic immigrants are, for the most part, a boon to this nation. Immigration laws are arbitrary and subject to change ever generation or so. No human being is “illegal,” and while sneaking into the country without inspection is a violation of civil federal code, it does not make you a criminal. If we had a logical guest-worker program and more immigratn visas available for people who want to live with their families, we wouldn’t have a fraction of the “illegal” immigration we do now.
