alisond4 2 months agoPlease stop using “OCD” as an adjective. You cannot “be” OCD. Even if someone with OCD is very organized or does have a germ phobia, there is a lot of frustration and pain behind it. To Thrrrrob, we’re not laughing because our whole lives are not organized—when you have OCD your life is in chaos, no matter how put together you may appear to everyone else.

I’m not one to be easily offended, but this post was beyond offensive. My OCD literally ruined my life and tore my family apart. It is a serious mental illness and it makes the life of the sufferer absolute hell. It’s not funny and those little “OCD quirks” everyone claims to have aren’t OCD, they’re human nature, and with everyone going around being like, “Haha guys I cleaned my room! I’m so OCD!,” it gets really difficult for the actual sufferers to be taken seriously. You should seriously delete this post.

kiskanak 2 months agoJesus Christ Buzzfeed, are you ever misinformed about OCD. Last night I lost literally *all* the sleep because I couldn’t stop pulling out my own eyelashes. I had to call in sick due to lack of sleep. My fingernails feel like they’re about to fall off, and my thumb feels sprained. Try that on for OCD. It’s called trichotillomania and I’ve had it for 23 years. There is no cure. My face is different than all everybody else’s. Many of us become hermits because of it. BOY I wish I was “always prepared”!

I have tried to post this a few times now - last try (sorry if they all show up)All of the above things are actually much more likely to be symptoms of OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder). I have OCPD, not many people know about it or understand it, confusing it with OCD is not helpful. Also, I found this mildly amusing, but I imagine that I would find it less so on one of the occasions where I haven’t eaten in a day, and haven’t slept in 2 because I can’t stop organising and making lists.

NippyBurns 2 months agoFor you people thinking we are being sensitive about the matter just view it this was please. When one has OCD they are OBSESSIVELY compelled to perform the same action, they lack the self control the majority of us have. It is extremely disturbing and painful for the person that suffers from it. Having a strong desire to organise your clothes does not come close to what genuine OCD is. Like some body else said, go and read the DSM diagnose to see what it really means

All of the above things are actually much more likely to be symptoms of OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder). I have OCPD, not many people know about it or understand it, confusing it with OCD is not helpful. Although I did find this mildly amusing ( I am able to see the ridiculousness of my behaviours, just not at the time), I’m sure I would find it less so on one of the occasions were I haven’t eaten for a day, and haven’t slept for 2 because I can’t stop planning or organising, then, not so funny.

I don’t think any of these technically qualify as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Anal, yes, but not OCD (at least by DSM standards).
