Whereas when you live in Lanzarote/Spain (where I live now since 2004) drivers who are on the actual roundabout hardly ever signal where they are coming off, so you could just sit there waiting forever, or take your chances and just *go*… ;)

It doesn´t happen in Germany, they´re very pushy there (which, even as a German, I find really annoying).
I´m German (but lived in London 20 years) and I do the same! I don´t like people wasting my time for no bloody reason!
It basically comes down to (1) Brits being very picky about their tea and (2) never saying what they really think for fear of offending someone or getting into an argument. To outsiders or foreigners, this will look like the Brits are always very polite. What it really means is … they have NO SPINE!!!! Regarding the latter, I totally do see what my biggest problems were when living in London for 20 years, being *me* (very straightforward and always saying what I think) AND being German.
This is the BEST. :D
