Australian Band Emerges Onto US Alt-Rock Scene

Monks of Mellonwah are the next big thing in alternative rock. Learn about their 2012 LP now so when they explode in 2013 you can tell your friends, "told ya so."

Monks of Mellonwah are an Australian alt-rock band on the verge of breakout status. In 2012 the 4-piece group won 'Best Indie Rock Band' at the Artists In Music Awards plus garnered a nomination for Best International Act at the LA Music Awards. The accolades are unsurprising after listening to their 2012 EP "Neurogenesis". Solid musicianship with throwback guitar solos that give you a rush of classic rock nostalgia in the best possible way.

If "Neurogenesis" is a preview to the upcoming full length album, get excited. The EP contains 5 songs and each piece consistently solidifies the sound and vibe defining Monks of Mellonwah. Combining hard rock licks with emotional lyrics and great vocals their songs come across as finished and tight. At times their music evokes an Incubus sound and Pink Floyd vibe but with a throwback to 80's metal guitar solos. Although that sounds a bit off putting, the group nails the blend and it never feels forced. The songs are catchy and emotive, musically as well as lyrically.

The Monks have caught the attention of producer and sound engineer Keith Olsen, to produce a few tracks on the upcoming 2013 full length album. If Olsen sounds familiar its because he has worked with a wide spectrum of music icons including Fleetwood Mack, Ozzy Osbourne and Journey. Not too bad for a little band from down under.

Based on their EP and the band's growing industry presence, their full length album has potential to cross genres and gain heavy radio play. If you want rock music with expressive lyrics, great vocals (front and background) plus class rock guitar solos then get hip to Monks of Mellonwah. Jump on the wagon now and you can be one of the first to spread your Australian love from sea to shining sea.
