  • Sorry, Krystian M. Are we not entertaining you? Clearly an oversight on everyone's part. 1. Why do I suddenly crave a bomb pop?
    2. I knew I shouldn't have taken the brown acid.
    3. Oklahoma-god that was cool!

  • I like how everyone keeps posting the same comment. Anyone want to actually make an interesting comment now, or are we all stuck on repeat?

  • Tanner Ringerud, please just stick to posting links to the worlds fattest pugs. An alternative would be to do some quick research into the politics in the southern US. Something tells me you won't, though. Attempting to sound informed on a topic you clearly know nothing about. Don't be that guy.

  • It looks like in the last 20 years there have been no big shifts and only increases in saturation. Very interesting and scary because you'll end up with some hardcore people in either camp.

  • Who knew the south used to be such a liberal hotbed?  Answer: People born before 1990 and/or those who actually cracked open a history book in high school.

  • You mean “Who knew the south has always been conservative and socially backwards?” Democrats used to be conservative, Republicans were liberal. Remember Teddy's Fair Deal? Or his universal health care proposal? Or how about Lincoln freeing the slaves? As stated by people before me, the parties have changed. The south has not.

  • You know, as far as I can tell from most internet comments, if you're a Republican, then you're not allowed to know that the Dixiecrats all switched teams in the mid-60's. You're required to believe they're all still Dems.

  • Anyone who's ever read a US history book should know how Democratic the south used to be. Ever hear of Dixie-crats?

  • NERD ALERT: Actually, the South was fiercely Democrat after the Civil War because Lincoln, the slave stealer that he is, was the first Republican president in office. Strom Thurmond was one such Democrat. They all switched over to the Red team during the Nixon era.

  • Well someone didn't pay attention during US History. Add to that the fact that people vote according to issue, not ideology, and there was this little thing called the Red Scare, and you have a completely useless video. The parties have changed dramatically in the last century. I'm glad other people pointed this out before me.

  • they should have combined presidental results with congressional results. you'd get a different picture

  • “Who knew the south used to be such a liberal hotbed?” uh, who knew about this thing called the civil war and jim crow, or about johnson knowingly sacrificing the south for the civil rights act?  apparently idiots who post on buzzfeed

  • Joseph hit in on the head. Democrats used to be the party of the conservative south, because you known Lincoln was a republican.

  • the south was never a liberal hotbed. there was an ideological shift that occurred in both parties about sixty or seventy years ago. so-called dixiecrats, white conservative democrats, used to dominate the south. the republican party used to be more moderate when it was still the party of Lincoln. at some point, the republican party changed their southern strategy to focus on the demographic that is currently their main voting bloc.

  • It's worth noting that the Democratic party used to be the one that was backwards and intolerant socially, though.
