Rare Hailstorm Hits São Paulo, Leaving A Surreal Winter Wonderland

A severe storm on Sunday dumped blankets of ice in São Paulo, Brazil. For many residents, it was the first time they had ever seen hail.

A freak hailstorm hit São Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday, leaving a blanket of ice on Brazil's largest city.

Around 4 inches of hail fell on the city by Monday, said the Centre for Emergency Management.

Some parents told local media that their children had never seen hail, nor played with ice before the storm on Sunday.

Naturally, residents were out and about, taking pictures and posing with the piles of ice left behind from the storm.

Some residents even took to the streets to relax on the piled-up hail.

Warmer air temperatures in São Paulo after the storm made for steamy streets and an eerie appearance.

Although hail in Brazil is common in some thunderstorms, nothing of this magnitude has been observed in quite sometime.
