I understand what Philco is trying to say. It is just the nature of the beast. As wait staff you shouldn’t feel entitled to get a certain percent tip and as a customer you shouldn’t feel obligated to give a certain percent because the nature of a tip is like a pat on the back for good service. It is a “thank you for serving me today.” It is taboo to not leave a tip at all because that is how our service culture works but everyone needs to realize, until tips become legally mandatory or worked into the price of the food to pay the wait staff, it will always be a heated debate. Good rule of thumb… treat others the way you would want to be treated.
