To be clear, I wholeheartedly support most gun control measures, for a lot of reasons. But to cavalierly dismiss out of hand people’s concern for personal safety irks me. My girlfriend was rapped and nearly murdered (an anecdote, I know). The police just chalked it up as another statistic (this was a stranger crime in NYC) and moved on.

Yeah, I hate it when people use anecdotes, like the Sandy Hook shooting, to justify their arguments. I mean come on, look at the stats. Who kills more people in total: deranged psychopaths with a gun or rapists?

What’s the argument against letting the CDC gather basic statistical information like they do for tons of other procedures, again? I read the part where stigma and extremists were mentioned, but I fail to see how gathering anonymous information on a national scale implicates those possibilities in anyway.

Men who are assholes are, in fact, assholes. In other news, the sky is still blue. Also, you will never see an article criticizing any female romantic ploys, because that would be sexism — how dare you.

The “friend zone” is, in large part, made up of two kinds of people. There are plenty of guys who think that being nice (a.k.a. basic human decency) alone entitles them to sex. At the same time, there are women who flirt and lead guys on in order to use them (even if it’s just for complements), knowing full well that they have no interest in that guy. Both of these things are equally shitty. Let’s not pretend that every guy who’s ever been put in the friend zone got there solely of his own accord.

First, I’m pretty sure about half the men commenting on this are just “nice guys” who have enough sense to recognize that being blatantly misogynistic is stupid. Second, the guy in the fedora did nothing wrong except say he was nice and that he was “friend zoned.” Admittedly, not the most emotionally mature way to present oneself, but not a crime.  Let’s call a spade a spade. Most of these guys are probably total jerks. What really separates them from the rest of society is that they’re bad at hiding it. This article, for example, is just a socially acceptable way of making yourself feel better by trashing random strangers you know almost nothing about.
