Your mom loves you, you need to call her. It’s strange how even though we move on and become adults, our parents never really stop thinking about us. If your mom isn’t around anymore, call someone else who loves you and let them know you love them too.
Pay for someone’s coffee.
Wouldn’t it be nice if someone made an effort to start your day in the right way? Paying for someone’s coffee/tea/beverage is such an easy way to make the world a slightly lovelier place. If you can’t afford to do this, maybe just invite a co-worker to go get coffee with you in the canteen, the important thing is taking a moment out of your busy day to connect.
Write a handwritten note.
Snail mail is in. Yes, you’re right, it was never really “out,” but I do think we’ve forgotten how nice it is to receive a handwritten letter addressed to you. So take five minutes, sit down, and let someone know you miss them.
Leave an anonymous sticky note.
This one’s easy and will make everyone’s day a little bit nicer. Take a sticky note, write something nice on it (a compliment, quote, encouragement) then stick it on someone’s desk while they’re away. Just run fast, Santa Claus or you might get caught!
Pick up trash.
No one likes and ugly neighborhood, so why not do your part to help? This one is free, easy, and should only take 15 minutes of your time. Just think of how happy you’ll be making Oscar the Grouch.
Send an appreciation email.
Handwritten letters are always better, but really when it comes to being nice it’s the thought that counts. So take a minute out of your day and send an email to someone you appreciate.
Bring your friend their favorite candy bar.
If they don’t like candy, then you can think of something else. But next time you see your friend, bring them something that made you think of them. It’s a small gesture, but it’ll surely mean a lot.
Call people by name.
You’re probably laughing, but it’s so true. Hearing your name makes your day so much brighter. If someone has a name tag, use their name. It’ll make a big difference in their day, and who knows, maybe you’ll make a new friend.
Make a playlist.
Making your friend a playlist is an easy, free, and practical way to say, “Hey, I hope you have a great day.” If they’re runners, make them a pump-up playlist. If their job is high-stress, making them something soothing they can listen to at work. You get the picture, music makes things better. P.S. We recommend using Spotify for ease of sharing.
