roll85 2 years agoWhy? Because it’s now a historically important landmark. They may even feel like they were personally touched by that history, considering the fact that something so significant happened in their small town. They may keep it as a reminder of and a connection to the story of how they were in bed and were awoken by loud sounds that turned out to be more significant than anyone thought. And on and on and on. What you should really ask yourself is why millions of people go to the Louvre and take a picture of themselves in front of the Mona Lisa, or even more astounding, take a picture of just the painting itself. Or why people go to kitschy stores in NYC to buy a small model of the Statue of Liberty. Again, I would say it probably serves as a marker in their lives and some way to palpably touch their memories through a proxy. But it’s much more inexplicable than taking a picture in front of Osama’s mansion.
