You can listen to McClain’s story here.

Security Camera View of the Incident (No sound, sadly.)
Meg McLain enters the video at about the 1:10 mark.
-
Another view.
“Though farther from the action, you get a better sense of how many officers were actually on the scene (at one point, there are at least eight) and what a commotion the incident was. You can also see the angry agent getting directly in McLain’s face before they start walking toward the door.” - Palm Beach New Times
TSA Scandal an Exaggeration?
You’ve probably heard the story of Meg McClain, a radio personality who refused to be scanned at the airport, and how allegedly the TSA screamed at her and ripped her airplane ticket. The TSA recently released a video of the incident. You can decide for yourself if McClain was exaggerating or not.

Michele A. 2 years agoi don’t really care if it’s been exaggerated or not. the “security” measures in place in airports these days are a violation of our basic rights as human beings. i should not have to submit to non-medically necessary radiation and have my nude picture taken or submit to a groping. i also will not submit my son to either of these options. they do not know what kind of effects the radiation from those scanners will cause in the future…there are people who will be more sensitive to it than others too…including children. also, i do not understand how it is even legal for them to use either of these security measures on children. you cannot take nude photos of children (don’t argue with me about the photo…it is detailed enough that you can tell a person’s sex, the size of their sex organs, and can even tell if a woman is menstruating), and you also cannot touch children inappropriately (those pat downs are VERY inappropriate). if either of these 2 things happened anywhere but the airport, someone would be arrested for it…why is it legal in the airport?!?
so now i will not go anywhere that i cannot reach by car…because i certainly am not submitting to this b.s.

Tyler C. 2 years agoWhen do any of the agents get “angrily directly in her face”? If someone is refusing to go through the body scanner (or comply with any commands from security) then the TSA agents are well within their rights to become suspicious of that person. I’m glad they were as thorough as they were with her. Nothing in the video seemed out of bounds (of course, there was no audio) and it seems to me as if Ms. McClain is unaware that we are living in the post 9/11 era.

JonWithoutAnH 2 years agoEveryone bitches about their privacy being infringed upon. Fuck it. If some dude wants to see my wiener in x-ray form then have at it. You could probably find a better photo just by googling my name. But that aside, I’m all for it. One time I was running late for a flight and didn’t have time to check my bags. I went to security and realized I had a bottle of liquid that was over the 3oz limit, but itwas too damn expensive for them to just throw it out. And since I didn’t have time to run back and check my bag in, I made the decision to just stuff it in the waist band of my underwear. Walked right through, no problems, no questions. Now what if that was an Accelerant of sorts? I could have started a fire or worse. But two weeks ago I flew again out of D.C. and went through a full body scan. I went through without anything in my pockets (or so I thought) and the officer pulled me aside and again told me to empty my left pocket. What do you know a crumpled up 5 dollar bill! If they were able to catch that, I knew you couldn’t just sneak anything in. Call me naive but whatever. Besides, your tits aren’t that nice and they don’t look any better in X-ray so quit complaining.

Marky 2 years agoThis incident is reminiscent of one earlier this year where the woman claimed she was separated from her baby, caged, and harassed. The footage from that didn’t support her version of the story. It turned out she was just trying to generate traffic for her blog and exaggerated events to sensationalize it. Same is likely here for 2nd tier radio personality. The larger issue remains that the TSA screening system is fundamentally flawed, wasteful of money, resources, and completely ineffectual since they have NEVER EVER stopped a terrorist act.

D Rae 2 years agoI would like to point out that when she enters the screening area at 1:10 in the video, she does not walk through the full body scanner, she walks through the metal detector. There is a man walking through the full body scanner when she is entering security. Everything she says is false.

elbruces 2 years agoThe video looks consistent with her story, to me: she had stated her refusal to be searched, one TSA agent announced that she was a “refuser” (or something) and then they all converged on her from all directions. That’s how the “system” is supposed to work, right? Right?

girlskill 2 years agoWow I’m so sure it’s like Nazi Germany. Shut the fuck up. Did I miss the part where she was handcuffed to the chair??? And get over yourself, bitch… nobody was staring at you.
I don’t see the problem with complying with security. They’re doing it for everyone safety. Stop being a pretentious little bitch and let them do a body scan or pat down. Get over it. -

Denis R. 2 years agoExaggeration would mean there’s something to her story. Other than her refusing to be checked, and they doing what they have to do (escort her out of the security zone), pretty much everything she claims is belied by the video. 1. No handcuffs.
2. No screaming (maybe a little forceful talking, but when people scream, they have a specific type of body language, which is clearly not the case here).
3. No massive number of police surrounding her.
4. No physical intimidation of any kind.
5. Tissues given to her while she’s sobbing like a 5 year old.
6. I couldn’t see anyone “ripping” her boarding card. But even if they did, it would have been the correct thing to do. TSA cannot allow anyone through who refuses security checks. That’s their job. Your boarding pass is made void by your refusal to submit yourself to security checks, and they HAVE to destroy it. People: flying is not a right, it’s a privilege. I know it’s a pain, but until the law is changed, this is what you have to accept in order to fly in the US. If you’re not happy with it (I certainly am not), make sure to call your representative. But lying about it certainly won’t make the case. -

wwew 2 years agoshe, and the rest of her cadre, probably has no problem with muslimey looking people being subjected to extra TSA attention and pat downs and all the rest, but “regular” people (meaning white) with “normal” clothes and no accents?!?! conservatives are all the same - everything is fine until its their own ox getting gored, then its a problem. AND SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW!

Shadow 2 years agoShe thinks that she was the only one picked for the scanner? Yeah, maybe for that 10 minute timespan. Already my eyes are rolling. Seriously, if you’re not willing to be scanned, you come across as suspicious and as a security risk. Plain and simple. Anyone flying knows this. It’s one of things you have to be willing to do to fly nowadays since terrorists come in all shapes and colors. Suck it up.
